How To Update IGEL OS Devices over the Internet via Nextcloud

Written by: Michael Hennemann, IGEL Community Member

In the IGEL Community, we often see the question: How do I install IGEL OS over the Internet, or how do I install IGEL firmware via ICG? Read the following paper to learn how to use Nextcloud to update the IGEL OS in any location easily.

What is Netcloud?

Nextcloud is a suite of client-server software for creating and using file hosting services. Nextcloud is free and open-source, which means that anyone is allowed to install and operate it on their own private server devices.

Why use Nextcloud?

Nextcloud uses HTTPS for transfer, no need to open any firewall ports for FTP. Should work via a proxy server as well (haven't tested, though)

Works with anonymous shares—no need to include credentials for a real user or service account in the config profile. Access only lasts as long as the link is valid.

Should work with hosted Nextcloud or on your prem server as long as it's accessible from the Internet.
